Maxim Yankees Baseball

The Maxim Yankees celebrated our 13th anniversary in 2007.  A wood bat team consisting of collegiate and ex professional players help keep the Yankees at the top of the summer baseball circuit.  With a winning percentage of 75% (363-129) over 12 years, Maxim has won many tournament championships over the years as well.  In 2001 the Yankees won the United State Semi Pro National Championships and in 2003 won the Best in the West Invitational.  In 2004 the team once again won the prestigious Best of the West.  The team also was a Sweet 16 finisher at the 2004 NBC tournament. In 2005 the Yankees once again qualified for the NBC tournament.  Finishing with a 3-2 record, the Yankees lost to the Clarinda A's 9-8 in 13 innings in what was considered the best game of the tournament. Last year the team was a few wins away from a national championship at the NBC World Series and ended with a 9th place finish. The team has been consistently one of the top teams in the country.

In 2001, the Yankees roster boasted Jon Hudgins (College World Series MVP '03, drafted in the 3rd Round by Texas), while the 2003 pitching staff was led by Matt Durkin (SJSU All-American '02-'04, 44th overall pick of the New York Mets).

The 2004 Yankee roster took a big hit, losing five players to the MLB.  Durkin, Caleb Cooper (19th round), Matt Thayer (28th round), Drew Ehrlich (30th round) and Jose Amaya (43rd round).

In 2005, the Yankees lost 8 players to the MLB Draft, you can read about them on the News & Notes page.  The 2005 squad includes four pitchers who received Conference Pitcher of Week awards.  The Yankees also added Tim Kubinski formerly of UCLA, who spent parts of two seasons with the Oakland Athletics.  The Yankees went to the NBC Tournament with a roster that featured 11 former MLB draft picks.  The team also included Jimmy Van Ostrand who was named a First Team Summer All-American by Baseball America.  Van Ostrand and Gary Daley who has now pitched for the Yankees in 2004 and 2005 were named the #3 and #2 prospects respectively in the Alaskan Summer League.  The Yankees 2006 schedule was rated as the toughest summer schedule on the West Coast.  Being independent of any summer league, the Yankees are able to schedule the toughest teams each summer without adhering to any league regulations.

The 2006 Yankees set a Maxim record with 35 wins.  There were 10 former Maxim Yankees select in the 2006 MLB Draft, including seven on the first day.  In their 12th season, the Yankees once again established themselves as a dominant force in the collegiate baseball scene.

2007 proved to be another strong showing for the Yankees.  There were 9 former Maxim Yankees who signed pro contracts.  Mike Zagurski made his major league debut for the Phillies, marking another big leaguer who played for the Yankees.  The Yankees also finished 2nd in the prestigious Best of the West Tournament, falling to defending national champion, the Santa Barbara Foresters in the championship game at Stanford's "sunken diamond stadium".
